Meet Nayanie, a remarkable woman whose passion for agriculture has led to inspiring changes in her community in the Nuwara Eliya district of Sri Lanka. Nayanie’s journey began in 1995 when she started working with grassroots communities involved in crafts manufacturing under the Rural Women Organization Network in the Southern Province.
In 2011, Nayanie made a pivotal decision to relocate to Hanguranketha in Nuwara Eliya to focus on cultivating crops such as organic vegetables and herbal medicinal plants. Her dedication didn’t stop at her own cultivation; she actively involved women from the village in the process, fostering a sense of community and empowerment.
One of Nayanie’s most significant contributions was the establishment of the Galauda Gammanaya Society in 2020. This initiative aimed to bring together locals interested in agriculture and provide them with a platform to collaborate and support each other.
Despite her best efforts, Nayanie encountered a new hurdle when she struggled to find a way to preserve and utilize excess food effectively. With no access to machinery or guidance, she faced a daunting challenge. It was during this critical time that Beyond Childhood International Director Nadee Gunaratne reached out to Founders of the of Empire of The Sun.
Empire of The Sun stepped in generously, donating a much-needed machine to Nayanie, who serves as the Secretary of Galauda Gammanaya Society in Hanguranketha. This support not only alleviated Nayanie’s struggles but also symbolized a larger mission to empower women across Sri Lanka.
Empire of The Sun, in collaboration with Beyond Childhood International, has set an ambitious goal of empowering at least 100 women in various regions of Sri Lanka. Their focus is on supporting women who wish to produce healing and herbal products using natural ingredients.
You too can be a part of this transformative journey. Your donations can make a significant difference in empowering women like Nayanie and fostering positive change in our society. Join hands with Empire of The Sun and Beyond Childhood International to create a brighter future for communities in Sri Lanka. Together, we can make a lasting impact and support women’s empowerment initiatives that pave the way for a more sustainable and inclusive.
